Lithuanian e-residency

Why is everyone talking about Estonia and its e-Residency, when Lithuania has much more to offer?

What is e-Residency?

As of 21 June 2021 foreigners have been able to apply for e-resident status in Lithuania, receive an e-resident card and e-ID certificate.

This allows them to make use of the electronic administrative, public or commercial services provided in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian e-residency program is just the latest in a growing marketplace. Estonia launched it’s highly popular e-Residency program, the first of its kind, back in 2014 and it has since grown to be the program to beat.

Why Lithuania?

As a member of NATO, the EU and the Eurozone, Lithuania is among the most politically stable countries in the region.

The multicultural nature of the country also ensures you’re easily understood. Lithuanian, Russian, English, and Polish languages are widely spoken.

Excellent transport links by road, rail and air make it easy to manage distribution, if required.

The country is ranked 11th globally for Ease of Doing Business and has become a major financial hub, with notable EMIs, including Revolut, relocating to the country.

Lithuanian cities are compact and smart. From apps that help you pay for parking through to seamless public transport solutions like bike and car share, getting around is easy.

The New York Times ranks Vilnius alongside Copenhagen, Barcelona and Cape Town as a trendy and well-managed place to live.

As you can see, there are a number of differences between the programs and it can come down to the scale of your business.

Lithuania’s fee is cheaper than Estonia’s and the cost of doing business in the country can be considerably cheaper than its northern counterpart.

Applying for Lithuania’s e-residency program is also four times faster than Estonia’s, taking only 10 minutes in most cases.

Lithuania’s impressive Ease of Doing Business ranking, excellent infrastructure, cheaper application fee, and lower company running costs make its e-residency program the stand-out choice.
